The École Française Internationale - Sharjah (EFI-Sharjah) is one of the accredited educational institutions in the United Arab Emirates. The school was founded in 1974 and is located in the Al Abar area in Sharjah.

The school is accredited by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) to teach the French curriculum programs to all students across all educational stages. In addition, it is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education.

Fundamentals of the Early Childhood Program

  • Acquiring good reading and writing skills.
  • All programs comply with the curricula of the French National Education System.
  • The Preschool stage (Maternelle) is the early learning cycle (Cycle 1), which forms the educational foundation upon which learning is built and developed.
  • Children must acquire a rich, organized, and comprehensible oral language.
  • Through play, activity, independent exploration, and experimentation, children build their essential skills, following their unique path.

The Five Learning Domains

  1. Acquiring linguistic skills.
  2. Representing and expressing oneself, and understanding through physical activity.
  3. Acquiring the skills necessary for the children's motor and relational development.
  4. Acquiring the first mathematical tools: Learning situations aim for the acquisition of numbers and their uses.

Primary Education Program

  • The Primary School welcomes students aged 6 to 11 across two cycles (the three years of the fundamental learning cycle (Cycle 2) and the first two years of the consolidation cycle (Cycle 3)).
  • The Primary stage includes five grade levels: Cours Préparatoire (CP) (Preparatory Course), Cours Élémentaire, 1ère année (CE1) (Elementary Course, Year 1).
  • Cours Élémentaire, 2ème année (CE2) (Elementary Course, Year 2).
  • Cycle 2, from CP to CE2, is the fundamental knowledge acquisition cycle.
  • Cycle 3, which links the last two years of Primary school (CM1, CM2) with the first year of Middle school (6ème), is the consolidation cycle. This cycle has a dual objective: reinforcing the acquisition of basic knowledge (introduced in Cycle 2) and providing the best possible transition between the Primary and Middle school stages.
  • Language mastery remains a fundamental objective of Cycle 3.
  • The student must have sufficient autonomy in reading and writing.
  • English and Arabic language lessons are an integral part of Primary education.

Middle School (Collège)

  • Middle School represents the students' entry into Secondary Education and is divided into four levels, from Grade 6 (6ème) to Grade 9 (3ème), and is divided into learning cycles.
  • All students in the Collège receive 26 hours of compulsory education per week.
  • At EIFS, we opened our Grade 6 (6ème) class in September 2024. Grade 7 (5ème) will open in September 2025.
  • Regarding the learning cycles: Middle School covers the end of the consolidation cycle (Cycle 3). Thus, the Cycle 3 program is subject to consultation between Primary and Secondary school.
  • Cycle 4 is the advanced learning cycle: it includes Grades 7 (5ème), 8 (4ème), and 9 (3ème).
