About the school

The Spanish School of Abu Dhabi was founded in September 2020 to be the only Spanish school in the United Arab Emirates. The school is located in Al Bateen area in the heart of Abu Dhabi island and provides distinguished education according to the globally recognized Spanish national curriculum.

The school has received Apple School accreditation in recognition of its excellence in integrating technology and innovation in the educational process. The school's Spanish Language Center is also the only place accredited by Instituto Cervantes in Abu Dhabi, allowing students to obtain Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) certificates.

Students will be admitted to The Spanish School of Abu Dhabi (SSAD) after meeting the following requirements:

  • Complete school registration documents; pay tuition fees in advance; and complete an academic assessment in Spanish and Mathematics starting from Grade 1.
  • Admission of students in pre-school depends on age (3 years: Grade 1, 4 years: Grade 2, 5 years: Grade 3).
  • Parents will be notified of acceptance or rejection after completing all necessary procedures for the registration process.
  • The last date for registering birth dates for admission to any grade level is September 15.
  • The school has the right to refuse admission to any student who does not meet the admission requirements. It also has the right to determine the accepted student's level in the grade or subjects that are considered most appropriate for their success.

Non-Spanish Speaking Students

Students applying for admission who do not have sufficient Spanish language proficiency to effectively participate in and benefit from the regular education program are also enrolled in the Spanish Language Immersion Program (SLIP). Only students whose admission tests indicate that they are at least at the required level of Spanish language proficiency are accepted.

Furthermore, only SLIP program students who commit to following a complete academic program with SSAD accreditation or obtaining an SSAD diploma will be accepted.

The school does not accept applicants who wish to learn Spanish only.

Admission Process

  • Admission applications are accepted at all times during the school year.
  • Applications must be completed online through the school's website.
  • If there are no places available at that time, the application is placed on the school's waiting list.
  • Applications on the waiting list are not automatically transferred to the next school year, and applicants are required to reapply for each year.
  • When a place becomes available, the school will contact the first qualified applicant and invite them to attend the assessment, if it has not been conducted yet.

The school provides education in Spanish. Although Spanish proficiency is not a requirement for admission, but is highly recommended, assessments are conducted in Spanish or English or both when necessary. From Grade 2 and above, priority is given to Spanish speakers in registration.

Children of faculty members will receive a scholarship covering full tuition fees.

Fees are paid at The Spanish School of Abu Dhabi at the accounting office or by credit card (only) for online application.

Educational Programs at The Spanish School of Abu Dhabi:

1. Early Years Program The program applies the Spanish Ministry of Education curriculum and provides a warm and safe home-like learning environment for children aged 3 to 6 years. The program focuses on emotional development, movement and control of body habits, communication and language, and building a positive self-image. English is integrated into the weekly schedule at all levels, and non-Spanish speaking children can enroll directly in the language immersion program in pre-school.

2. Primary Program The program extends for 6 years (from Grade 1 to Grade 6) and applies the Spanish Ministry of Education curriculum. It aims to develop skills and knowledge progressively year after year. The program provides trilingual education (Spanish, English and Arabic) in a multicultural environment with more than 40 nationalities. Teachers use various active teaching methodologies such as cooperative learning, educational play, project work, and work stations to ensure authentic and meaningful learning. School hours are from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the possibility of participating in extracurricular activities (sports, arts and music) until 4:30 PM.

3. Secondary Program The school currently offers up to Grade 7 (First Year Secondary), with new grades added each school year. The program continues to apply the Spanish national curriculum and prepares students for subsequent educational stages according to the Spanish education system which includes:

  • Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO): from age 12 to 16 years (4 years).
  • Spanish Baccalaureate (Bachillerato): from age 16 to 18 years (two optional years for university preparation).

4. Spanish Language Immersion Program (SLIP) A program dedicated to students who do not have sufficient proficiency in Spanish to effectively participate in the regular educational program. The program is offered to a small group of students from Grade 1 to Grade 4, and is taught by teachers specialized in the Spanish curriculum who focus on providing necessary language support. Only students whose admission tests indicate that they are at least at the required level of Spanish proficiency are accepted.

5. Additional Programs

  • Extracurricular Program: includes sports, arts and music activities.
  • School Clubs: provide opportunities to develop talents and interests.
