#### Foundation Stage
**Curriculum in Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2**
Learning in the Foundation Stage begins with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which focuses on play-based learning, where our young children develop important cognitive, communication, and social skills. These years help lay important foundations that will benefit students throughout their years of education and beyond.
Students develop basic abilities in numeracy, reading, and writing skills and begin to apply their learning to real-world experiences.
In Year 1, students begin the Key Stage 1 curriculum, designed to enhance their creativity and interest in learning, while developing basic skills. Students learn through diverse and interactive activities and enjoy the exciting things that each new day brings.
In these years, students begin to develop all important skills in literacy and begin to work with numbers to perform basic mathematical operations. Additionally, the curriculum enables students to explore new topics for the first time, developing the breadth of their knowledge.
#### Primary Stage
**Curriculum in Years 3 to 6**
In the Primary Stage, learning is fun and creative. The enhanced Key Stage 2 curriculum is designed to ensure students develop skills across a range of academic fields and feel inspired to challenge themselves further.
We encourage students to develop new academic interests, through the broad curriculum offered, while ensuring they develop the essential competencies needed to access more challenging curriculum materials in later years.
Starting from Year 5, the curriculum is delivered only by subject specialist teachers for all lessons. This model ensures that girls progress to the Key Stage 3 curriculum with a higher level of academic independence and deeper knowledge of subjects.
**Curricula in Years 7 and 8**
The Year 7 and 8 curriculum is designed to provide as much educational experience as possible, as well as developing core skills too. Girls are encouraged to collaborate and incorporate creativity into their work as they explore new topics and ideas.
In Years 7 and 8, our program is supported by the UK system's Key Stage 3 curriculum with the addition of Arabic, Islamic, and Social Studies.
The curriculum provides an intellectual challenge and balance with the aim of providing as wide a range of future opportunities as possible. It also lays the foundation for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education programs that will begin in Year 9.
#### Secondary Stage
**Curriculum in Years 9 to 11**
In Years 9 to 11, students obtain the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, where they can design their academic program according to their interests and talents. The International General Certificate of Secondary Education offers internationally recognized and prestigious qualifications, ensuring depth and breadth of knowledge, skills, and understanding before offering further specialization in Year 12.
When choosing International General Certificate of Secondary Education subjects, students will be given the opportunity to shape their own broad and balanced curricula with the support of their personal tutor and subject teachers. All students will complete examinations in core subjects including English, Mathematics, and Science, in addition to elective subjects; this will pave the way for their A-Level choices. Arabic language, Islamic studies, and social studies remain an integral part of our curriculum.
**Curricula in Years 12 and 13**
The curriculum in Years 12 and 13 is designed to prepare students not only for A-Level examinations but also for life after graduation from Down House Riyadh.
A-Level offers a globally recognized qualification that facilitates admission to the best universities worldwide. Students typically choose to study three A-Level subjects. The A-Level curriculum is academically strong and designed to recognize and appreciate the depth of learning. In addition to the A-Level subjects in which girls take examinations, they continue to prioritize learning Arabic language, Islamic studies, and social studies.
Our schedules are designed to provide girls with a greater level of independence in their learning. After choosing subjects of interest, students are given time to read about these subjects and gain a deeper understanding of the material they will be tested on.
The school is exclusively for girls from Year 5 to 13, ages 9 to 18 years.
It is co-educational in Nursery, Pre-prep, and Lower Prep, ages 3 to 9.
