About the school
The Italian School of Jeddah was founded in 1966 in response to the requests of numerous Italian families residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The school received financial support from the Italian community, Italian companies, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and subsequently began operating at full capacity as a private non-profit institution, under an agreement with the Saudi Ministry of Education.
Over time, the number of Italian students declined while demand from foreign students increased. In 1995, the school began experimenting with a bilingual programme targeting kindergarten, the primary stage, and the first year of middle school. This experiment proved to yield positive results, allowing the school to continue operating as a bilingual school — unique in its region — and well-suited to accommodating students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
For the Italian School to be a pioneering educational community that combines the authenticity of the Italian curriculum with openness to the world, nurturing a generation that is multilingual and multicultural, capable of communication and creativity.

The Italian International School offers the following :
Kindergarten Stage :
The kindergarten stage seeks to achieve the emotional, psychomotor, cognitive, moral, and social development of children, and to establish an educational profile that is continuous with the primary stage. The child is at the very heart of the educational process, and everything is arranged so that they may experience school life in a calm and constructive manner, with full consideration given to their needs and aspirations.
Students are taught Italian, English, and Arabic for a total of thirty hours per week, spread across five days: twelve hours for Italian, twelve hours for English, and six hours for Arabic.
Teachers are committed to valuing children's curiosity, experiences, and discoveries by creating learning situations and appropriate activities to facilitate the organisation of what the child experiences, such as :
- Plastic arts, painting, and sensory activities.
- Verbal communication activities.
- Movement activities.
- Musical and theatrical activities.
- Activities to develop a spirit of sharing.
Primary Stage :
In the primary stage, the teaching of the various subjects is distinguished by the adoption of active methodologies that place the pupil at the centre of their own learning process. The most effective active teaching methodologies are realised within a learning environment that is intentionally designed and organised to guarantee an inclusive and integrating context.
In the primary stage, the hours of English language instruction are increased compared to kindergarten to cover a total of 45% of the weekly timetable, in order to appropriately fulfil the established objective. Arabic language instruction is maintained, but reduced to two hours per week in accordance with what is stipulated by the Saudi authorities regarding foreign educational institutions operating on Saudi territory.
The Italian language covers the teaching of all subjects in the humanities domain, while the English language covers the teaching of subjects in the scientific domain. Belonging to the Italian domain, for a total of 14 hours per week, are the following subjects: Italian language and culture, history, geography, civic education, arts and image, music, and physical and sports education. Belonging to the English domain, for a total of 14 hours per week, are the following subjects: English language and culture, mathematics, and science. The teaching of mathematics and science seeks to reconcile the curricula set out by Italian legislation with the international curricula in use at international schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Middle School Stage :
The middle school stage represents for students the phase in which in-depth mastery of the various subjects is achieved, understood as perspectives on reality and as interpretations and representations of the world. In this stage, mastery of the various subjects and the systematic organisation of knowledge are strengthened with a view to an integrated body of learning. The competencies developed within the context of the various subjects contribute to the promotion of broader and more transversal competencies, which are an indispensable condition for full personal fulfilment and participation in social life.
