Foundation Stage at Dove Green Private School
The Foundation Stage welcomes children aged 3 to 5 years, divided into two groups:
- FS1: Ages 3-4 years
- FS2: Ages 4-5 years
At Dove Green, we provide a comprehensive and balanced curriculum for our youngest children, based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, where children acquire new skills and develop their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
The Three Prime Areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
These prime areas are the most important for healthy child development and future learning.
As children grow, these prime areas help develop skills in 4 Specific Areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
We believe that learning effectiveness depends more on how children learn than what they learn. Therefore, learning environments and experiences are carefully planned to promote independence and enable children to make their own choices.
Teachers and learning assistants provide stimulating learning environments known as "enabling environments," which serve as the "third teacher," observing children and exploring their interests and skills to ensure accurate planning of next learning steps.
Primary Stage at Dove Green Private School
The Primary Stage welcomes students aged 5 to 11 years, divided into two stages:
- Key Stage 1: Grades 1 and 2, ages 5 to 7 years
- Key Stage 2: Grades 3 to 6, ages 7 to 11 years
The school is committed to providing high-quality education that promotes lifelong love of learning by inspiring, motivating, and engaging students in an exciting educational experience. The customized curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England, ensuring students acquire skills and knowledge according to British standards, with modifications that align with students' reality in the UAE. In addition to core subjects, Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Moral, Social and Cultural Studies are taught according to the local Ministry of Education curriculum.
In Key Stage 1, we continue building on the foundations laid in the Foundation Stage, providing an exciting learning environment that motivates children to learn and grow. Learning experiences are enhanced through the use of rich texts that form the core of each topic, enabling children to engage deeply with content, discuss important issues, and develop writing skills, preparing them for Key Stage 2.
Dove Green Private School takes pride in encouraging each child to reach their full potential. Teachers challenge students' thinking in innovative ways through stimulating lessons that help them think critically and question deeply. Students are encouraged to use creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills throughout the curriculum.
The school does not use traditional textbooks or pre-determined worksheets, as they can limit student progress. Instead, the curriculum is delivered interactively through stimulating and engaging activities that engage students from the start. Involving children in choosing what and how they learn allows for greater curriculum customization for each child, making it more exciting and beneficial.
Key Stage 3 – Grades 7 to 9
Key Stage 3 represents the beginning of the secondary school curriculum, designed as a three-year program covering many subjects, which are revisited and assessed throughout these years. This stage builds on knowledge and skills acquired in primary school and allows students to experience 15 different subjects. There are no elective subjects at this stage, giving students sufficient time to make decisions about elective subjects at the end of Grade 9. The three-year extended curriculum also ensures students are fully prepared to study for iGCSE certificates in Grade 10.
Subjects Studied by All Students in Key Stage 3:
- Mathematics
- English
- Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
- Arabic
- French
- Humanities
- Art
- Music
- Design Technology
- Computer Science
- Physical Education
- Social, Moral and Cultural Studies
In Grade 9, each student has an individual interview with school leadership to discuss subject choices they wish to study in Grade 10 for iGCSE certificates. Parents may attend the meeting, but the focus is on empowering students to lead the conversation about their choices. For new students in Grade 10, the same approach applies, with the possibility of conducting interviews online if the family is outside the country, ensuring fairness for all students.
Compulsory and Elective Subjects for Secondary Stage (Key Stage 4 – Grades 10 and 11):
- English (English Language and/or English Literature)
- Core PE (not examined in GCSE)
- Mathematics
- Sciences (Double Award Science "Trilogy" equivalent to double GCSE, or Separate Sciences equivalent to 3 GCSEs)
Additional Notes:
- Islamic Education (no GCSE exam) for Muslim students
- Wellbeing period for non-Muslim students at the start of the day
- Arabic Language:
- Arabic A for students with Arab passports, required by UAE law, 3 hours weekly
- Arabic B for all other passports, optional for GCSE
- Moral, Social and Cultural Education (Year 10 only, not examined)
The school believes in the importance of empowering students to choose their preferred subjects. Trial exams at the end of the second term help create a customized curriculum for each student, identifying any potential challenges to ensure a personalized and effective learning experience.
Key Stage 4 – Grades 10 and 11

Year 10 Mock Exams:
Year 10 mock exams are an essential part of the British education system, aimed at preparing students for their final exams in the following academic year. These tests help students to:
- Familiarize themselves with the format and topics of actual exams
- Identify their strengths and weaknesses
- Practice exam performance skills in a low-pressure environment
It's important to encourage students to take these exams seriously and use them as a learning opportunity. Parents can support their children by:
- Ensuring they get adequate sleep at night
- Encouraging them to eat a healthy breakfast before going to school to provide mental energy
- Avoiding arguments at home to reduce stress
- Ensuring they arrive at the exam center before the scheduled time
- Using flashcards to review information in a fun way
All DGPS teachers have experience with the iGCSE program and are ready to support students and provide them with the necessary tools to achieve their best possible performance.
These exams are an important stage in a student's academic journey, where they can showcase their efforts, knowledge, and skills. Despite their importance, they represent an opportunity for growth and learning, familiarizing students with the exam process they will undergo the following year.
Key to Success in Mock Exams:
Success is not limited to final grades alone but includes the effort made, resilience, and lessons learned from each question and each concept understood, contributing to academic and personal progress and bringing students one step closer to achieving their final GCSE results.
