The Indian School, Al Ghubra, aims to educate its children to understand that they will not harm others, thereby achieving the highest ideals they can reach. They must realize the difference between right and wrong, and be familiar with the recognized rules of social and moral conduct. They must show extreme contempt for all forms of fraud, such as cheating, embezzlement, gossip, and petty revenge, and must be resolved that telling the truth and bearing suffering will be happier than lying and escaping punishment. They must also have a mature attitude towards clothing and appearance. They must be prepared to resist the yoke of superstitions and customs, take initiative, and be disciplined, responsible, and leaders. They must overcome their fear of unpopularity or maintaining an independent opinion. They should be given increasing opportunities, as they grow older, to take charge, organize, and act independently, and therefore, make mistakes and learn from them. They must know that education cannot be separated from standards of social behavior. Their good manners should be as reliable in the company of those below them as they are in the company of their superiors or peers. They should feel completely comfortable with strangers, men and women, and be able to participate in intelligent dialogue without shyness or aggression. They should find happiness in good company and friendship, and while they are slow to form friendships, they are slower to form enmities. They should control their nerves and emotions, but never fear justified anger. They must form a firm resolve to serve their country and their brothers and sisters, men and women, in their daily work and in their leisure time. They must have at least a basic understanding of the main social, political, and economic problems of their country, and believe that working for the welfare of the poor and participating in the duties of good citizens is an obligation for every self-respecting man and woman. They should become accustomed to simple living, see no contempt in getting their hands dirty, enjoy physical effort and adventure and the flavor of danger, and be proud of their ability to take care of themselves. They should learn the value of money, be able to live within their income, and be able to handle bills, checks, money orders, and savings books. They should become accustomed to reading widely for themselves, whether for enrichment or pleasure, and know how to take notes and how to extract information from reference libraries. They should also become accustomed to reading daily newspapers, forming their own judgments, not trusting unreliable opinions, and not considering everything published as given. They should be able to speak and write fluently in our national language, in English, and in their mother tongue. They should learn how to learn, have the desire to continue learning, and be able to accomplish much hard work without always having a teacher beside them. They should develop their artistic talent whatever its type. Whether they have this talent or not, they should be trained to appreciate natural beauty, critique others' arts and designs, and form cultural taste. They should be able to play games, ride horses, swim, and run, to develop the virtues of courage, altruism, and sportsmanship, achieve balance between mind and body, and engage in healthy recreational activities in their leisure time. They should know how to win and maintain their health, and receive wise and frank education in all matters of personal and public hygiene. They should be able to make the best use of their leisure time, and possess resources for entertainment and enjoyment, whether alone or in the company of friends. They should not feel bored, whether with themselves or with others, if urban entertainment and comfort facilities are cut off from them. They should have sufficient and inexpensive hobbies that arouse their interest in every situation they may find themselves in. Finally, they should have a sound awareness of the country's rich past history, the legacy of splendor and greatness they have engaged in, and resolve to dedicate their lives to serving it and serving their brothers and sisters, men and women. If they can, when their time of departure comes, claim that they have achieved more than some of these ideals, they will be able to look back with pride and affection to their school years, and to the school that accepted them as children and graduated them as men and women.
